What kind of elves are the thalmor

Wood Elves aren't generally seen as much of a threat and tend to be on the weaker side of race choices in the series. However, they made up a large portion of the Thalmor before they rose to be the governing body for the Aldmeri Dominion. This is largely due to the land that encompasses the Third Aldmeri Dominion, which covers both Valenwood and the Summerset Isle, as well as sections of Elsweyr. Before becoming a massive influence on the Aldmeri Dominion, the Thalmor had a much more humble beginning as a fringe group that was largely ignored and ridiculed by everyone they preached to.

After the final battle of the Crystal Tower, members of the Thalmor spread rumors of their involvement in the battle.

They even went so far as to assassinate anyone who dared to speak out against their apparent victories and how they turned the tide of battle singlehandedly. The Elder Scrolls novel Lord of Souls mentions them, too, and it takes place between the events of Oblivion and Skyrim, that the Thalmor were considered the Empire's greatest upcoming threat.

To the majority of the races that opposed and fought against the Aldmeri Dominion in the Fourth Era, they called the battles fought for freedom The Great War, but the Thalmor have a different, more sinister name.

To the elves, this was the First Great War Against The Empire , indicating that, even though they are at relative peace, the Aldmeri Dominion plans to restart the war at some point in the future. It wasn't a long lived character because it was one of my many attempts to play a mage. I'm trying to recall I believe my character was the son of a high ranking Thalmor, but was relatively outspoken during the Great War.

So, he was sent away to study magic in a far flung area of Tamriel. I forget where. His father was a relatively good guy and often fought against some Thalmor practices.

Not completely against the grain, but he didn't agree with secret raids and the like. This resulted in a political backstab which found him killed and then the Thalmor responsible sent a hit squad after my character. Once I survived, I decided to travel to Skyrim to learn more and to enact my revenge. Obviously, this is one of many awesome examples in this thread of Altmer fighting against Altmer.

It's one of the nicer things about Skyrim that nobody is pigeon-holed. One day I should make an Altmer warrior that has called Skyrim his home since before the Great War and suffers the hardships of living among the prejudice Nords despite very much adopting their culture and lifestyle.

That would be cool. Raijin A Mage that loves a Templar. The parents of my high elf character were staunch Aldmeri dominion supporters and were proud to be within the ranks of the Thalmor justiciars. They were pushing their son My high elf to join at the age of 18 and he did for a while.

He started slacking off when he started to not follow orders when he was ordered to kill a group of young Talos worshiping Nords in Cyrodiil, including couple of the children. He found it odd because killing children was forbidden. They would instead take the children to a camp where they were to be indoctrinated, some were forced live in servitude.

The Thalmor Ambassador of Cyrodiil found out about what my High elf was doing, and had signed an arrest warrant for his arrest where he would be taken back to Alinor where he face punishment and re-education. A friend of my high elf warned him about this and told him to run, but not after he betrayed him after casting a GPS like spell on him when he wasn't looking. His friend was driven by greed had lead a group of Thalmor justiciars to track him down, and had him arrested.

He was quickly promoted for his betrayal of my high elf for doing a good service to the Aldmeri Dominion. Now arrested he was heading back to Alinor to be punished and to be re-educated. Having a friend who undergo the re-education process where he came out a whole different person, he wasn't going to let it happen to him.

He realized that what he was about to do would be the end of his career, and that he would become a fugitive of the Thalmor for the rest of his life. Even his parents would be going after him under orders. He made up his mind and turned against his fellow comrades. He immediately killed his former friend and a couple of justiciars on the road, but not after he sustain serious injuries. His healing magic provided him an extra couple of miles of travel, but not until the pain became too much, and he was force to find a place where he could rest and to recover.

He decided to rest in Capstone Cave where he discovered that he wasn't alone. He was inches away from death when someone came to his rescue She brewed him a potion that would heal his wounds. In his eyes this Nord woman was a sign from the gods that things to change, and for the better. He became a rebel, and made it his mission to slaughter every single Thalmor justiciar in sight, even if that means that he kills his parents if they came within his sight.

Several days later after the help from the group of Nords hiding in a cave he decided to leave and was heading to Skyrim wearing civilian clothing that was given to him by the Nords. He realized that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time when he bumped into an ambush.

Skryim could use more seriously joinable factions, says me. Agree x 1 Winner x 1. I love the Altmer, but the whole racial supremacy stuff is annoying. Useful x 1 Optimistic x 1. Wildroses Well-Known Member. None of the three Altmer characters with backstories and personalities I have made and am about to make in once case, just as soon as I figure out some decent ways of roleplaying a chronically weak and sickly person into Skyrim gameplay , have ever supported the Thalmor. This is because I'm not happy roleplaying characters who don't share a decent amount of my own personal values, which is why I'm not into the majority of the Daedra quests, Dark Brotherhood or Thieves Guild and probably why I will never play Dawnguard from the vampires side.

I can't support the Thalmor because they support and use torture, which really bothers me. Religious freedom is also very important to me. I don't care if Talos is really a god or not although it is my personal opinion he is a real god because SOMETHING is curing my diseases and blessing me when I pray at the shrines , people should be free to worship him without fear of persecution.

This is why I would not donate to the Embassy, I would not obey Elenwen if she gave me an order, and I would not join the Thalmor if it became a joinable faction.

I do find the presence of the Thalmor means you have to be careful about your Altmer character backstories though.

A High Elf who left their country and doesn't like one of the largest political organisations running their homeland means you have to think carefully about the character's attitude to politics and feelings about rulers and officials.

I've decided living in a country ruled by people who behave like the Thalmor would be like living in a totalitarian state, with a lot of repression, censorship and fear. Factor in that High Elves have actively been running a breeding program to try and keep to a physical ideal, and the picture of living in the Summerset Isles gets creepier. That's my head cannon, anyway, for all I know it's different officially. Two of my three Altmer were born in the Summerset Isles and left hurriedly because they knew if they didn't leave now, they would get arrested and probably killed.

One of them didn't even do anything against the Thalmor directly, her parents did, but she knew that wouldn't count for anything if she fell into Thalmor hands. One of them was born into an upper class wealthy family, and she actively seeks out the rich and powerful because she thinks that survival involves making yourself useful and pleasant to the rich and powerful.

The other was born in a slum and thinks to attract the attention of the rich and powerful is a dangerous thing, so she won't go anywhere near the Jarls or officials if she can help it. Neither of them think getting actively involved in politics is a good idea, so neither have joined either side of the Civil War.

Neither stays long in Solitude either. Solitude is the centre of Imperial Power in Skyrim, ie Too many people who might tell the Thalmor where they are. Like x 1 Agree x 1 Informative x 1. My first character in the Elder Scrolls series was a Dunmer I choose the Dunmer to fit the story in Morrowind , and I always saw the Altmer as arrogant, pretentious and racists about any other race even mer.

The Thalmor are Altmer with a God complexion which makes them even worse. It's impossible to support them unless you're cold and want nothing more than total domination of all Tamriel.
